New grocery store in Pascagoula?

Pascagoula isn’t exactly a shopping Mecca.  Grocery stores are fairly limited, and most people do much of their shopping in Walmart for the sake of convenience.  While Walmart may offer a lot of that, it isn’t known for great selection or incredible bargains either.

But there is a new kid on the block now…

Right off of Highway 90, in a formerly vacant store front, a Sav-A-Lot has moved in, bringing another option to the Pascagoula selection, just a half mile from the Walmart that most people drift through every week.  What does this mean to local residents?

Potentially, a lot.  Sav-A-Lot was a favorite store for budget wise shopping for me in the New Orleans area, and it was conveniently close too.  Granted, their selection is somewhat undependable, and their standard brands may be ones that you’ve never seen anywhere else, but when you are trying to feed a family on the lowest number of dollars possible, you are very interested in a bargain!

Before, the nearest locations for Sav-A-Lot were Lucedale, Gulfport, and Mobile, Alabama.  This newest addition to their limited stock, discount chain is located in Pascagoula, and has their grand opening today.  With bargains like chicken leg quarters for $.37 per pound and ham at $.97 per pound, I doubt they’ll have trouble getting customers to come and try shopping there.  I may opt out of the grand opening crowd today (even if I missed being one of the first 200 customers who got a coupon) but this is a store that is high on my list of things to try.
